Section. I bought a 3 pack of Mag1 5 quart bottles (15 qts) for $62 on Amazon shipped free. This is what I asked.....Could you tell me the difference between full synthetic motor oil and 100% synthetic motor oil? Also, which group oil is Mag1 Full Synthetic 0W-20 FMX Dexos motor oil? Let’s see what they tell me. If they tell me anything at all. I have done so much reading and can’t find the difference between Full Synthetic and 100% Synthetic. My first assumption is full synthetic is Dino oil with specific additives that make it equivalent enough to synthetic base oils to call it full synthetic.

I can hardly wait to read their response indicating that the formulation is proprietary.

Mobil 1 made my LS460 sound like it had a CAI. I had to pullover and check the dipstick the sound was so different accelerating on the on ramp!

Check the UOA I posted in the gas section for a 9,018 mile run on Mag 1 0w20 in a 2016 Tacoma. Great TBN retention low wear metals. What's not to like.

I sent in an oil sample using a 5W30 Mag1 C3 synthetic and will be posting a UOA when I get the results back.

I think it's the same thing.

All of the base oil stock, or 100%, is synthetic (meaning Group 3 or 4 or 5 in America) and so the oil is fully synthetic.

The add pack is a separate issue. A strong add pack often has high numbers for things like zinc/Phos, TBN and SAPS (SA%) level. You can have a high (or low) SAPS oil in either Dino or synthetic.

A semi-synthetic or synblend is part Dino and part synthetic. Last time I asked Valvoline DuraBlend was 30% synthetic and 70% Dino (mineral oil, Group 1 or 2, almost always Group 2 now days).

In general a synthetic oil is better at extremes of temperature, very hot or very cold. It is also more resistant to oxidation, so it lasts longer. I may do 5K miles on a Dino but 10K miles on a synthetic, for example. Mostly it's best to just follow the owners manual.

It looks to me like almost all of the synthetic in the US is mostly group III. You will have synthetic oils where they have added IV and V but we aren't talking large amounts.

WPP has stated that while they make both MAG1 and Supertech Synthetic, they are two different formulations with the MAG1 being the premium product of the two.

Let’s see if this uploads from an iPad. It’s the back side label of the Mag1 0W-20 oil I bought from Amazon. It does say it’s made from 100% synthetic base oils. I missed that when I first read it.

My wifes Subaru became oddly noisy with M1 EP 0w20 which was supposedly (per SDS) a group majority iv = Likely the only synthetic Xom markets under the Mobil 1 brand in the U.S.

No one said PAO is Good for your motor, just that it's synthetic

Yep, it was a completely different engine with M1. It's smoothed out since the oil change 4,000 miles ago but I'll never put M1 back in.
