I remember back, maybe in the late 90s Black Magic detailing products were very popular. They came in a clear bottle I think, and smelled like cherry. Anyone here use them? I think I tried their protectant back then on my Olds Trofeo and it was very shiny, and did well on interior "hard plastics",because it was really thick and coated them rather than soaking in like Armor All type stuff. .

I've tried a few of their products over the years I don't have much brand loyalty for anything. I'll try everything once I guess (with the exception of Armor All) didn't like the greasy feel of their interior protector products.

Nothing against them just remember having a nightmare trying to get the stuff off at the car wash. Last thing I wanna do is drive home with that stuff on my steering wheel.

Probably attract ants. Also seems to make your eyelids really heavy.

Their products seem to be on the greasy side for some reason. Mothers, Meguires or even Lucas makes pretty good stuff at Wal Mart prices. Surf City garage is some of the best Wal Mart stuff but selection is limited.

Unless you are going with what the Pro Detailers use* I just use Mother's products. The owner is a Gear Head, although a fabulously rich Gear Head, and seems to take the reputation of his company seriously. Sometimes a owner-operated business offers intangibles that corporate don't care quite as much about (any company listed on a Stock Market or OTC exchange).f

Be careful to use products specific to vinyl/plastics and leather; don't use one for both. Especially vinyl detailers on leather, will dry and crack leather in little time.

*If you are interested in the Pro products sold to the industry, check out those sold to Aircraft detailing specialists; their clients are rich [censored] picky jerks, the kind who insist on the best. No Wal-Mart prices, though.

+1, well said and I like their products very much. Nice company to deal with. Even sent me a free sample of their spray wax. With the other big company that starts with the same letter of the alphabet you get the run around about what department to contact about a simple question.

I think Black Magic's competition is Turtle Wax. They offer products at a low price point. For literally a few bucks more I like to go with Mothers for the quality. I think a bottle of their polymer sealant for the paint is about $10 at WM. I don't think it stains trim either.
