Just saw on their website that if you use Ultra Platinum the warranty goes up to 500k miles, and with everything else, including regular Pennzoil platinum, the warranty is for 300k miles.

200k is a big jump, so what is in the Ultra that makes it that much better?

I think I will, personally speaking, want a newer vehicle before 500K miles.

Thing is that oil related failures and even engine failure is by far a less common reason for a vehicle to be in the junkyard than a failed transmission or major accident.

Exactly. Oil related engine issues will not be the thing that causes retirement well before their 500K "warranty". For the extreme few that they might encounter (if they ever do) the cost will be well worth it for the marketing advantages.

Not to mention the likelihood of them actually paying out in the event of an issue. Going to keep receipts for 500k miles worth of changes? Even with those I'd doubt the ability to get money.

More escape clauses than warranty would equate to marketing. Have they ever paid out to anyone in a similar promotion in the past?? IMO, this is ad copy vetted by lawyers versus anything that would likely be considered "real world".

+1. What would happen if you didn't use ultra for one or more OCI for that 500k miles? Claim denied?

Yet folks stress over sodium content or moly content as if that will make a difference in their engines lasting 500k miles or not.

In my experience, it's elastomers that harden and start to leak to have killed my past cars.

SOPUS is trying to boost Ultra sales not knowing that the product cannot be found anywhere to be sold in the first place.
