YMMV - I purchased an Asus RT-1900P router yesterday at my local Best Buy for $75.99, no rewards, no special discounts. That was what the price tag on the shelf read. I was shocked when I got home and checked online and the price was $179.99 on their website crazy. Why the $104 price difference? shrug I have no idea if it was just one store or many, I'll try to find out today and update this afternoon. Note: the P in RT-AC1900P means it is a Best Buy exclusive, but online info suggests it is the RT-AC68U's successor. According to reviews, this P router is equal or superior to the Netgear Nighthawk R7000. Hope someone takes advantage of this!

Good deal.

Sounds like your local store had it mislabeled/mispriced.

Yes it's a Best Buy exclusive based off of the RT-AC68U. SmallNetBuilder has a review on it that explains the differences. Very good deal if you need a router. It's supposed to have a faster processor than the RT-AC68U.

https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless...router-reviewed

Last year I bought the Asus built TM-AC1900 exclusive for T-Mobile that is the same as Asus RT-AC68U, but it had T-Mobile firmware. I bought one for about $55 shipped because T-Mobile was having a sale, and then flashed it to official Asus RT-AC68U firmware. Hard to brick one of these routers because it goes into recovery mode when something bad happens.

My bestbuy had it for 75.99 but it was sold out so i ordered one. It seems like a pretty good price.

So yesterday I went hunting. Turns out that 4 out of 5 stores I checked in my area (greater OKC) had them marked $75.99 on the shelf. Of the 4, only 2 had them in stock (x1 and x5). I ended up buying 3, 1 for me, 2 for family. But if a store has them marked $75.99 and is out of stock, you can order one (or more) at that price and just wait for them to show up.

4 out of 5 stores is pretty good odds of snagging one though.

Also (off-topic), the RT-AC1900P DOES support (without any modification, simply plug-and-play) using a phone as a modem (tethered, hard-wired via USB). This is alien to me as a long time Netgear user. This finally allows me to test out LTE as a home ISP and if all goes the way I think (very, very low expectations here), I may finally be able to kick my horrible WISP to the curb (no realistic worries about data caps, will be trying T-Mobile's ONE Plus International plan offering unlimited LTE).

That aside, I must admit, the manager/wizard is WAY more advanced and satisfying than the Netgear Genie (which I've always heard bad things about, yet had no problems with until now, since I know the grass actually is greener on the Asus side). And fwiw, I did some dumbed-down benchmark testing on this and my sister's R6400 she bought two weeks ago (~$105). The Asus destroyed the R6400 all around, but especially in the 2.4GHz department (as it should). The Netgear is going back, and $30 back in her pocket along with it.

I really like Asus routers, their firmware is good (stability and features) and well supported (3 plus year old AC56U still getting official updates).
Good support community on smallnetbuilder forum too.

Some of these RT-AC68U routers also support third party firmware such as DD-WRT and Tomato.

I've been running Tomato on my old RT-N66U since day 1 and on several older Asus routers before that. I am so accustomed to the interface and capabilities of Tomato that I can't even fathom purchasing a router that does not support it. smile

Custom Merlin firmware is very popular for these routers. Has come custom settings, and I am not going to go into detail about it, but will say it could possibly make the router a bit more powerful without overheating the chipset. Will be able to monitor chipset temperatures.

These routers have AiProtection provided by Trend Micro that can be enabled. Network monitoring to detect malware, viruses, and intrusions before it reaches the devices. Privacy issues may be of concern because all net queries would be sent to Trend Micro.

This is the best firmware for Asus routers by far. Very stable.

Well, this deal is officially dead.

I went back today to either refund and rebill one of the routers, or buy another and return a different one (so that I could also take advantage of the 15% off recycling coupon I found out about last night). They returned it (at the $75.99 price, receipt was shown), however I received a strange system message that I was required to sign and acknowledge stating:

"***RETURN WARNED*** Future Returns May Be Declined. This return has been approved; however, a warning code was returned and you may not be able to make further returns or exchanges..."

LOL now I'm blacklisted over a legitimate purchase?!? With the exception of the last 3 days, I haven't been in a BB store since February, and prior to that, black friday. I've made maybe 5 returns in my lifetime, because I rarely shop there. But now the computer makes me look like a bad guy. So be it. Then she re-scanned it (willingly, knowing exactly what I was doing, and that it was just putting money back in my pocket) only to find that they switched the price back to $179.99. After consulting a manager for a long time, she came back and said "an email went out company-wide at about noon stating this was a glitch and needed corrected", and apparently they thought I was exploiting a glitch and scamming the store. I then got the 'scammer treatment', was denied the coupon, and they reluctantly sold it back at the $75.99 price, because there was NO way I wasn't leaving without it. When I explained that I was being honest and that 4/5 stores had that price marked on the shelf for the public to see, they didn't care. I was apparently 'that guy' now, cheating the system and being shady. It wasn't my fault that not a single BB employee in the country stopped and asked "Hmm, why is this item suddenly more than 50% and $100 off? Gee, maybe I should check on that!" Besides, the website showed $179.99, not the stores. If it was the opposite, then maybe I'd believe it truly was a glitch. But when countless stores physically change the tags on the shelf?!? Come on. It wasn't part of their weekly ad either, so "misprint" would be a lie too. And now their computers blacklist me on returns (even though I've ALWAYS returned items with a receipt) because of this? I've never been a BB fan, but now I'm leaning toward boycott status. Or perhaps I could become 'that guy' out of spite... Idiots.

Sorry, rant over. Bottom line, I got a good deal, and the deal is dead. But so is my BB status.

You are the chosen one!

At least you got the router back. I would buy one right now, but the Asus I have now has been rock solid. Speed on 2.4GHz.

If you are a T-Mobile customer, you get the router(TM-AC1900) for free use. It is basically a RT-AC68U with T-Mobile firmware. I bought it, and flashed it to official Asus firmware, and the above picture in my prior post shows. I think you can buy it too for cheap. Just give them a call.
