Hello,

I've been trying to find an oversized Fram Ultra oil filter. I've gone through the Donaldson attributes search to no avail and tried to make sense of the Fram catalog but am only able to correctly look up OEM spec. An answer would be great, also teaching a man to fish would be appreciated even more. Current part number is XG7317 and threads are 20mm x 1.5mm. I am pretty limited as far as outside gasket diameter with the spec being 2.484in and almost no room for increase its diameter. That said, the overall diameter can be larger just same outside gasket diameter. Sorry for the poor wording.

PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

I too was captivated by the allure of an oversize filter! Yet my oil still turned black just as fast and seldom found gobs of dirt in a cut open filter!

I now stay with a reg filter and slap a ton magnets on it and the oil stays cleaner
for 8 months and only darkens past 7,000 miles! So I finally got what I wanted! lol

Pic of filter I took out last week.

Fram XG3539A is compatible and larger.

That’s the spec for my 92 accord which is also compatible with the XG7317

XG9688 oil filter is the same size as the 3593A - wonder what the difference is

Read it again!

You wrote XG3539A which is quite different than the correct 3593A.

39 vs 93.

Looking at AC Delco , for example , I have read there is an oversize filter for a 2006 Buick 3.8l . Can not find it .

Anyone know what that would be ?

Thanks , :)

PF9_Primary__ra_p.jpg

AC [Delco] PF9. If the overall diameter can fit, this is a great filter. It says AC Delco on the carboard packaging but Delco is not mentioned anywhere on the filter label itself, they use the AC logo only.

It's not your typical AC Delco filter,it's is made in the UK and the internal construction and media are excellent.
Plus they're on sale!

Where are they on sale ?

We also have a 1991 Chevy Caprice 5.0l SBC . I can buy a short oil filter for it . Or a longer filter sold tor the SBC engines in pickup trucks . I have a supply of both stashed away .

By any chance , would they work for the 3.8l V-6 ?

Thanks , :)

They're just over a buck at rockauto. I scour that site all the time for really good closeout deals and that's about the best M20-1.5 bypassed filter I could find. Every bit of interior can-space is used, there is no dead space in that filter. The media extends right to the baseplate, and right out to the edge of the can. There are no end caps on the media, it looks more like a cartridge filter inside. The media is bright and glistens; looks like glass blended and NOT like straight cellulose. I cut one open, but then used the filter element as a pass-through filter for used, but still good engine oil.

Not sure it'll fit the SBC, don't those use a 18mm thread? Only the ZR1s used an M20 (and the PF9 is actually the filter for the ZR1 IIRC). The 3.8L (3800?) is not an M20x1.5 either unfortunately.

Yes , the 3800 is the same as the 3.8l ( with , perhaps , changes with model years ) .

Rockauto.com is showing AC Delco PF47 or PF47E , @ $ 3.32 - $ 3.35 . Fram FP3387A for $ 1.55 .
