Pep-Boys has an oil change special going on. 5 quarts of Castrol Edge and a Fram Extra Guard oil filter for $22.99 after a mail in rebate for a 10 dollar credit card. They had Castrol Edge European formula 0W-30 in stock and that is what I got.

You do end up paying the sales tax on $32.99 so in Pennsylvania that is an additional 70 cents on the 10 dollars over the $22.99 price, so the final price after mail in (or you can do it online) rebate is $23.69 plus tax on the $22.99 which is a good deal for five quarts of Castrol Edge and a filter.

That comes to $25.30 with tax, after $10 rebate.

That's a great deal. I was happy paying $5.50 a quart during the Advance Auto Parts sale. Wish I had an excuse to buy more! How long do you think it will last sitting in a closet?

Edit: never mind, no Pep Boys in Portland.

An even better deal was the two bucks a quart I paid for some of this oil at AZ during their clearance.
The PB deal isn't bad and would be worth taking advantage of if you at least got a Fram TG.
Still, even if you give the Fram away, you get the oil for $4.60/qt, which is pretty good if you really like this old-school oil.

I'd have to say this is anything but an old school oil. Let's call it a "longtime favorite"? It's a standard Euro oil. Plus it's PAO Group IV with a stout add-pack. Far better than any GF-5 oil if you ask me... But you're right, $4.60 is a very good price. Puts it inline with EDGE 0W-40.

Don't forget to get the rebate form from Pep-Boys when you get the oil. On that form there is an internet address to do the rebate online.

Jim - Just picked up 5 quarts of 0w-30 and a Fram filter for my son's Volvo and ended up paying a bit more. Pep Boys in King of Prussia, PA: Price for oil ended up being $6.44 per quart and the filter was $8.81, with tax, = $43.47 -> $33.47 after the eventual rebate. I spoke to the checkout guy and he said that they don't carry the 5-quart container of the 0w-30 and that the total price reflects the discount taken by the register & the rebate. Still, $33.47 is still a pretty good price for this oil. Any idea why/how you were able to get an additional price break on the oil you bought? Thanks.

Still more expensive that the everyday price for Edge 0W-40 at WM...

Why do people still seek the 0W-30? It's not the same green SL Edge it used to be.

Excellent question on using 0w-40. Volvo recommends 0w-30 for the car but what's the advantage/disadvantage to moving to the 0w-40 on a I-5 turbo motor?

They're practically the same oil. I'm not sure why they sell both.
