This truck is run local local short haul 20 miles each way no idle time,I have not changed the oil yet. However I did spin on 2 new donaldson blue filters (dbl3998) and topped off with 2 gallons of schaeffer9k (total 3 gal added in 30k) bc insolubles at .5%. This truck has 241k on the detroit 12.7 factory reman,it has an amsoil eapb120 bypass on it since this 30 k oil run began. The 38 and 41k run was rotella t6. I am running a similar setup on 3 trucks and I am still early in my research. Lets call these uoa "green truck ". At a later date i will
Post a different truck "red truck "is how I will refer to it . red truck has 1m70k miles, and lives the exact life green truck does, however the red truck did not have the long Rotella T6 oil interval on paper red truck looks a lot better than green truck

I would love to hear thoughts on this uoa questions or suggestions im all for it!

Over about 6000 gallons used on Schaeffer oil 2 trucks have increased mpg by .4-.5

Well, I'd say that you're good to go for a while still but it isn't quite what I would have expected. The first two things that jumped out at me was the amount of iron showing up in such a short time, and then how much the T6 thickened (it's no longer in use so no matter). I don't have any experience with monitoring a short haul truck and maybe that's all it is, just the constant grabbin' gears and downshifting/Jake Braking.

The new setup is working overall as the oil is in good shape. The TBN was in good shape and only got better when you added the new top off oil with the filters. The viscosity is in good condition and the air filters are doing fine for the dusty environment the trucks see.

I think you are off to a good start as far as the filter change interval. You will learn as you go and can make adjustments to fine tune your strategy. So far so good. If you don't already have it, you can download a pdf full of info for Detroit owners. I'm absolutely helpless with a computer but if you Google Detroit Service Brochure it should come right up. There is a new one updated for 2017 now.

The Detroit oil, fuel and filter brochure will come up if you google ddc-svc-bro-0001 and has lots of info if you don't already have it.

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that the rotella t6 had a gallon of mystic viscid lube in it which is very thick.these trucks are run very hard in an extremely dusty environment

I would also try another analysis company so to get a check on soot. At least once in conjunction with the Blackstone report. Looking again, I'm surprised that the insolubles are that high with the bypass setup, it seems like they should be much lower in your case. There's no improvement over the earlier reports with T6 and no bypass. It would be interesting to see the soot reading.

You definitely bring up some very valid points on the red truck in the next few days I will send a sample out to Schaeffer. I have a free sample given to me by the oil salesperson

As far as the green truck goes on the Rotella T6 I did a filter swap and added new oil at 15 30 and 38000 miles, so there was at least six gallons of fresh oil put in

Ok I guess I remember you saying that in other threads but had forgotten about it, as well as the thickener. That all makes sense then.
