They have a limited auto section with good prices on their oil especially the Shell oil.

As a Vet, I won't buy anything from HD. They refuse us a discount, whereas Lowes welcomes us as customers.

You must have a bad Home Depot. Before my grandfather passed away we went to Home Depot a lot and he always got vet discounts.

There is a disconnect somewhere-

http://themilitarywallet.com/home-depot-lowes-10-military-discount/

We proudly offer Active and Veteran military a 10% discount on their online or in store purchases. Please contact Online Customer Care at 1-800-430-3376 and place your online order over the phone for a immediate discount or bring your ID to your local Home Depot. However, this may not be used in combination with any other sale prices or discounts. (Editorís note: Several readers have reported that Home Depot no longer offers the military discount for online purchases.)

Our local lowes almost always has wayyyy better customer service, we will never buy big ticket items again from hd after our experiences during our house build and a separate renovation last year

And as a vet, if you wear a hat indicating you served, or I overhear a discussion about you serving, I will go out of my way to thank you, and you'll likely eat for free.
IMO, the least any of us could do for the folks that put, literally, life in harms way for the greater good of all.
Thank You for serving.

9 time out of 10 when you hear some vet get [censored] about Home Depot and their Vet discount, it is because they failed to read or understand their rules. Their 10% vet discount is only on certain vet related Holidays and you need to be either Active duty, Guard, Reserve or have disabled with all requiring a govt issued ID card to that affect.

The problem is the vast majority of vets served honorably and get out after term of service and if they are not a retiree or have a disability that gets them a VA card, they have no other ID of service and a DD214 does not suffice for Home Depot.

So these guys that roll in with their "I served" hats and wearing their old BDU's wanting a vet discount but have no ID or not on a recognized holiday, get their panties bunched and then go on the internet claiming they were denied when they were never entitled.

I am a vet and do not subscribe to the "Every Vet is a Hero" mentality. The truth is patriotism probably third on the list when most join.
