Never heard of the stuff until just now:

Castrol 03555 EDGE Bio-Synthetic 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil

"Is manufactured with 25% sugarcane derived oil compounds meaning more use of renewable sources"

OK, I know that in chemistry many molecules can be cracked or lengthened as needed, but what in the world?
Maybe it uses a process similar to making oil from natural gas to do this?

If it goes through any molecular modifying processes, it probably smells like most engine oil does once it's "finished" with all the needed additives in it.

If you could smell the "basestock" before any blending occurred... *maybe* it would be different.

I just wonder what they are using "at the beginning"

waste product of sugar refining is "bagasse" It was burned to heat the sugar in the old days. Brasil runs cars on ethanol derived from sugar cane.

Seen an image before of this, I think this is linked to BP dropping biofuels work in the US and focusing on Brazil several years ago.
