I'm approaching a oil change on my 1.6 EB. After crawling under it the location of the filter is interesting. What was Ford engineering thinking? Usual YT warnings in the comment section.
I will be using the MC 910S filter.
I did go buy oil filter pliers just in case Hercules put the filter on.

Not as bad as replacing the battery.

Yep, the 1.6 EB Escape OF location has been posted here before at least once with similar comments. It's a dandy, or a doozy as the case may be. Don't know who did the engineering of the location, but it's steller.

Been through this twice this month on C-Max's
They are worse- you need ramps. Go get a Fram Ultra and run it for two OCI's
And my last new car had bad orange grommets- that was a 2017- brittle and when I unscrewed the Torx screws the insides came out of them. It may be smart to get a pack from your Ford dealer before you take this on. It's a piece of cake really but I hate under panels. They resonate noise nicely too.
The oil filter was cranked but easily removed with the right tools. I didn't like the drain plug that faces the arse end.
That was a hassle and it was backed into a bracket that required a paper thin wrench. I don't think Ford wants an oil change to be easy unless you own a lift.

Yeah, it looks like fun. If I take my time it should go OK. I will put it on ramps to give me more room. Even though I can crawl under it without them. Plus I can maneuver so when I pop the filter I wont take a bath in used oil.
That panel is a PITA! I have seen some with it removed and not replaced.

C Max's is easy, it sticks staight down, underneath, easy to reach:

The 1.6L Ecoboost is sticking out sideways deep inside the bay, so I can see how its considered tough:

I don't like oil dripping on the hoses though. maybe mod a foil drip pan there.

I had a Mazda Protege' that really had an impossible oil filter location. It was just under the intake rams horn which was against the firewall, but then steering components and AC high side plumbing was under it!

It was here where I purchased my first, app specific, filter CAP-style wrench.

Agreed. My 97 Escort was in a similar location but without all the hoses around it.
It was also accessible from the top OR the bottom.

Saw some of the video. Yes, change oil filter every OTHER oil change on this bad boy, using a double-life Fram Ultra. Plenty of capacity.

^^^ I don't disagree, perfect application for FU every other oil change fci application. Depending on total oci, some other silicone adbv filters could work too. One caveat consideration would be if the vehicle still under vehicle warranty.

The latter video imo, shows what a pita location the filter is in. And that guy had a nice lift for the job too.

Yeah, looks like fun. I'm tempted to take it to Ford for a change and see if they change the filter.
It has a Napa ProSelect on it.

I've only got experience with the Zetec Escorts, but they seem to be in a similar spot. A lot of people complain about the location on Zetecs but I've never personally had any real issues.

My 1983 Cavalier however, required removing the passenger side tire and dismantling most of the plastic wheel-well guards to get to it. That was one vehicle I was happy to take to a quick lube place.

Yes no issue on the filter- only the OEM filters are cranked on. The fiasco is the grommets and ramps.
And then the arse end oil drain plug which I usually use an oil extractor but since it was up on ramps.
But the whole ordeal is a joke compared to most because of the under shield!
I guess you missed what I wrote.......
