(MAINE STATE POLICE)
A self-proclaimed “good driver” was arrested in Maine this month after being clocked by police speeding at 139 mph.

In a Facebook posting, the Maine State Police say an aerial patrol spotted Sang Yook’s BMW Z4 speeding down I-95 at 69 mph over the posted limit.

He soon passed a police cruiser on the side of the road that chased him down and signaled him to pull over.

He complied and reportedly told the officer that he was doing 75 mph when a car started tailgating him, so he sped up to get away. He admitted to hitting 130 mph.

"There was no one around - the road was very straight, very tempting," the New Jersey resident told NJ.com.

Yook then got out of the car “for a break” and refused to get back in when directed by the trooper. He was arrested and brought to jail. The following morning, he pled guilty and was sentenced to 48 hours in jail (with credit for the time served overnight) plus a $300 fine.

"I tried to reason with them, but (a trooper) rushed towards me and arrested me," he said. "I was really surprised that he had arrested me. I think I'm a good driver."

Yook claimed to NJ.com that the arresting officers “were very rude, brutal,” and that the jail "was like a zoo, there was banging noise all night.”

"It was scary. There were drug dealers there, criminals."

The 64-year-old said he was on his way to Prince Edward Island in Canada for a vacation at the time of the incident.

Another option when someone is tailgating you, take the next exit or rest stop and let them go by.

For a second their I though the plaintiff was going to say he thought the posted signs were the maximum amount you could go over lawful speeds (ie 70+69 = 139 mph limit).

Unknown police officer:
"...pass me and I'll give you a ticket..." guy that he was talking to said only 14's and 'busas kept up. He was topped out at about 190 with the cop still pulling away. Stupidity is abundant, news only make it look amazing and add the 'wow' factor with commentary's. 100 over, 3x posted speed limit (hwy, and more in city) is not an uncommon occurrence. I hear a lot of gears changing near redline, 1, 2, 3, 4, no way are they doing less than 130 on city streets, ricers, muscle, bikes, almost daily, and that is just from my bedroom window.

Years back....true story.

The police (I forget if it was county or state) clocked an old lady doing 94mph on I-94 here. She told the cop she thought the 94 was the speed limit. Cop explained to her that it was the number of the interstate, not the speed limit. The speed limit at the time was 65 mph. Cop let her go with a warning.

Within 10 miles up the road, same lady was pulled over for doing 90 or so mph. She got ticketed that time. haha

139 mph?? The good old motorcycle riding days. Between my M/C and boat lots of time was spent over 100 mph. I had a new Vette pass me going so fast its wake surprised the you know what out of me.

I busted a limit or three. Trying to do it around here at night is almost suicide with bambi and coons. Have two vehicles that will do over 160 and one is way to easy.

The days of 100-120 being out of the normal are gone. I drive 80-85 especially on Kentucky interstates and people always fly by me, and the KSP never bother me at 80 in a 70. I'm speaking of I-71 and I-75 specifically.

It's incredibly easy to do 100mph. My bike is doing that if I even think about getting into it in 3rd or 4th gear.

The guy in the Z4 was intentionally trying to "Top it out" 139 is near the max for a Z4

Had a friend who bought a Toyota Supra turbo in the early 1990's who proceeded to jump on the Massachusetts turnpike where it starts in Western MA and pretty much floored it until he hit the last exit somewhere down near Boston where he was met with a road block of several state police cars guns drawn! They had him out of the car handcuffs and brought him to jail. There was a substantial fine can't recall how much and he lost his drivers license in MA for 10 years!

I had a friend who somehow used to be able to borrow cars from various friends and he'd take them up to the top speed. Some of them like the V12 BMW's were in excess of 150mph so after a while he'd say things like "Yeah it does 160mph" or whatever about various cars. I was in the car with him once where I think we were doing about 150, but only for a couple minutes so I knew he wasn't kidding. I've only done about 130, but that was on the Autobahn and I think that was about the fastest the rental car would go.

One early Sunday morning back in 1984 I drove my 1973 Bavaria across PA at between 100 and 120 mph(thank you, Cobra CB and CM Escort). A great memory.

This thread really makes me miss cruising across Bavaria doing a 150 the whole time on the A3 & 9 in the Mustang
