Hey guys, just recently picked up a new 2017 Tacoma with the rock solid 2TR-FE engine. After 2015 the engine was revised to have a dual VVT-i setup and switched to 0W-20 in the following years.

I know TMC 0W-20 is good, but I'm also considering options like Mobil 1 and Castrol Magnatec.

I got my coworker to switch to magnatec full syn from iirc federated auto parts dexos full syn. He loves it and has commented that his engine is noticably quieter. His is a 2015 or 16 tacoma trd.

I would magnatec imo.

I have a 2009 Tacoma with that engine. In the 5 years of ownership I came to the conclusion that the engine runs best on Castrol Magnatec 0w20 and Pennzoil Platinum 0w20. In that order.

That engine is rock solid. I owned the predecessor and the big change seem to be adding the VVT which is not bad.

Any major brand of oil that meets specs will work. The above recommendations are good

any 0w20 oil changed regularly with an OEM FILTER will do fine in those engines
