Hey good day
I was talking on the topic on other thread, but dont want to hi-jack it so i have created a new topic.
People who have cars with this engine, what viscosity oil do you all use?
and can anyone quote what the manual states about oil?
Thanks a lot.

Any people who use thinner oils on this engine, do you all suffer any burn-off?
thanks again

We have a QG18DE in my wife's Expert. They recommend 5W-30, and I use Castrol Edge. It only holds 2.7 litres and has a tiny oil filter, so do 10,000km oil changes on it.

Cheap american oil with cheap dino base oil and even cheaper VII, thus low HTHS and very shear prone. A 10w-30 requires less VII and therefore has a higher HTHS. It also will not break down as fast. They tell you to only use 5w-30 in cold climates because they fear you use low quality oils, and low ambient temperatures let them hope the oil never heats up.

Solution: use ACEA A3/B4 oils, when you want to use a 5w-30.

Yes, or a Dexos 5W30 or a ACEA A1/B1 or A5/B5.

These will all be either full synthetic or semi-synthetics at the least.

If 5W30 is made to the correct standard, it can go the distance and handle high temperature.

thanks alot.
