Best practice?

Don't keep your apps open when not needed and don't sit on it like most people do. The more it is used as a phone the longer your battery will last.

There are some articles suggesting to keep it overnight on it's face.

Charge on something that absorbs battery heat vs a bed.

Battery will outlast the number of months your phone gets updates.

My Otterbox holds an amazing amount of heat in.

I'm sure it isn't helping battery life at all.
But it keeps the phone from getting destroyed.

Good points above.
Keep the battery cool. (as already written by Coprolite)
Phone cases do keep them hotter, but protect the phone. (as written by Linctex)
And while letting the battery run down to zero all the time is not good for the battery, neither is keeping it charged at 100%
