I hear this name touted by all trailer makers and I guess it's a good brand of axle, but I've never really heard of any other brand. Sounds like a monopoly to me. Does dana make axles for trailers?

They used to, I know for sure.
I have Dana electric brakes on my older camper - - and replacement parts are NOT available anymore for them.

The local trailer supply (Waco Wholesale Trailers) sells Dexter stuff, and cheaper than I can find anywhere else online.

Lippert also makes axles, mainly for the RV industry. Not sure if they put them on cargo trailers too or not.

Lippert axles are used by sure-trac in trailers..

My utility trailer has a 3500# model. but they have dozens of models.

Ps: the radial trailer tires that came on it are great. With the gate folded flat I only lose 1mpg highway.

Dexter has bought many other axle manufacturers so the selection is very small now. They bought AL-KO awhile back and discontinued parts for them, I found out the hard way.
