Is it doing a better job cleaning than the regular delo 400 I was using? This is in a mower. I'm running 15w40AME CI-4plug/SL oil. I'm at 25hrs on the oil change and it's darker than the delo was when I change it at 50hrs. The mower only has 285hrs.

The next oil change if you run the Amsoil again will be interesting.

I've noticed the same condition when I run Shell Rotella 15w-40 in high mile vehicles.

I'm sure a mower was filthy and it's getting cleaned out. Plus Amsoil is occasionally dark going in, depending on the flavor.

Oil color is interesting to talk about over a beer, but only a UOA will allow you to draw valid conclusions.

What would the UOA show that would indicate that the oil fill cleaned out varnish and gunk from previous oil?

I don't see how with only 300hrs and 50hr oil changes their could be much gunk. It was pretty dark going in though.

What engine is this running in if I had a pick I'd run Amsoil ASF if wanting a 40weight in a small engine.

It's running in a Kawasaki FX481V 15.5hp twin cylinder vertical shaft engine.
