Was looking at these figures for Castrol gold bottle 0w40 from the russian oil sites. Great NOACKs.

Curious if this is exactly the same stuff in our black bottle edge 0w40?

EDGE 0W-40 is pretty much the gold standard right now as far as engine oils go. PAO basestock, impressive specs, a healthy additive pack, and all for less than $5 a quart. I've had good success with it.

Yes, here you have to watch. It doesn't make sense in North America to put it a tier above the normal synthetic (same goes with M1 0w-40), or you may have retailers not carry it, or ask a premium. The only Euro gold bottle we get here is the 5w-30 A3/B4, and that's only 1 L bottles, so you pay a premium anyhow.

Been rethinking about using this because of the high Ca content. My engines are DFI. Other people's UOA show about 2,500 Ca in some reports.

I agree, FWIW, although I think the gold bottle was much prettier

The spec sheet shows Ca starting at 2026. Compared to some oils not that high.
