Does anyone know anything about this oil if its any good in comparison to BMW Castro and other similar 5W30 synthetics? Also my local shop told me it is LL-01 but on the Total website it says LL-04

Thanks

It is suitable for both LL specs according to Total, and IMO is a very high quality product.I am using Total Quartz Ineo MC3 5w30 in two Nissan March/Micra cars, along with Total Quartz 9000 5w40,and Quartz 7000 10w40 in Ford cars,a European Escort 1.6.

How about Ineo Long Life? I think thats what my local shop carries, there much difference between MC3 and Long Life?

Ineo Long Life is designed to meet the Euro V Emission VW requirement and is ACEA C3,whereas Ineo MC3 is suited to a wider range of approvals, and is API SN/CF ACEA C3 rated

Suitable but it can't meet both at the same time, can it? That's impossible isn't it?

No.I was told that this oil meets the higher LL-04 spec and is backward compatible to LL-01.LL-04 can be used in place of LL-01.

LL04 is in no way superior to LL01 unless you have a DPF-equipped diesel car.

LL01 is high SAPS, LL04 is low SAPS.

They are making that up then, or don't know what they are talking about. LL-04 is not a "higher" spec than LL-01, not in the sense that it is "better" or more desirable.

And it is not backwards compatible, that is not correct. They are two different specifications, one doesn't supersede the other one.

IMHO, BMW LL-04 is suitable for use where LL-01 is recommended ......
whether or not LL 04 is backward compatible or meets/exceeds requirements of LL 01 .. IDK.

Ineo Long Life 5W30 carries VW 50400/50700.
Ineo MC3 5W30 carries VW 50200/505.01 .
Is VW 50400/50700 backward compatible with VW 50200/505.01 ?? I suppose so.

Actually LL4 could be stricter specification as it is based upon ACEA C3 spec that is superior to the A3/B4.

Anyway, that's what OEMs and ACEA say. LL04 is not a diesel spec, petrol BMW and MINI cars are specified to use them.
It may be diesel spec in NA but certainly is not in EU. It can be used where LL01 was original recommendation.

I've been using total quartz ineo mc3 5w30 for a year now in both my 1.8tsi volkswagens. Over a 10k oci, I DO NOT have to add oil at all. I've gotten great UOA's as well.

What's the difference between the ineo mc3 and ineo ecs? As I saw in Total's "lubadvisor", they now recommendation total quartz ineo ecs 5w-30 for my Peugeot 106.

Ineo MC3 is C3 and may be used where C2 is called for as it is higher spec than a C2.
Ineo ECS is C2, may not be used where C3 is called for.
