The Rat blog says that QSUD held onto it's protection factor much better than Mobil 1 when raised to higher temperatures. Does this seem believable? Would this justify a switch to QSUD from Mobil 1? All of this applies to 5w30 weight BTW.

I did 2 clean cycles 1 with PUP 5w-30 (previous brew that I got on clearance at AZ in 2015) and then 1 with PPPP 10w-30. I did those with Bosch and Mobil 1 FILTERS. On my current OCI/one, I did exactly what you said, "switched" to QSUD and topping off as needed with QSAD in 10w-30 (same as your 30 @ 212F) with a Ultra (yes, for the first time)..prev, I bought into the marketing of Fram High Mileage filter versus the then named "Extended"

To answer you question, heck yes, you can throw that chicken bone in the ground and raise you one QS.

anyhoot, that's my ramblings for now, pass it on..

What makes M! so special? It doesn't seem much better and sometimes worse than other syn/semi syn oils.

What exactly is a "protection factor"? How many samples were run? What were the statistics?

IT sucks, look it may have been bad [censored] back in the day but other oil companies caught up and not only that, flourished. UOAs showed/had high NA numbers and was noisy (read: BOISTEROUS). I loathe "Big Oil" aka Exxon Mobil. I do like their mascot, the one with that beige cap, but now you see how people buy into marketing(and then add decades upon decades of status quo) and you get it.

I don't know what the test sequence is...maybe it is one armed bandit...

Here is another member(Fsskier) that used M1 0-20 in "Tow" cars calling for 5-30 and extending the miles out to 300K all at 20K OCI

QSUD is an entry level synthetic and Mobil 1 is top tier. Do you really believe this test? Is that how oil behaves in the engine?

I had one car that liked QSUD much better than M1, but for the most part yes...
