Cheers!

According to Jaguar the Mercedes-Benz automatic transmission 722.6 is 'sealed for life' and the manual does not specify what transmission fluid should be used.

I haven't been in contact yet with a Jaguar dealer about this (closest one is some 70 miles away) but I contacted local Mercedes dealer today and explained my situation. According to them in this transmission of this period they would use Mercedes-Benz fluid no. A001 989 680313 which is a 236.14 fluid.

Would anyone of you by any chance happen to know if a 236.14 fluid would be the one to use in a 2000 XJR automatic transmission?

I have used Shell ATF 134 with good results in my 722.6 and on majority of Mercedes forums that's the recommended ATF for 722.6.

What I have learned is to drain the ATF after every 39K under normal driving conditions. For someone who's trying to be extra precautions, maybe 30K.

Filter at every other ATF change or 60K.

Good Luck.

They said the same for the early W211 transmissions but then later changed it to every 39k. See my other thread about getting Shell ATF 134, about $60 for a case of 12 quarts from your local distributor.

It is a start.

My manual says 2000 XJR with 722.6 transmission requires Esso type LT 71141 ATF, which is the same as BMW 83 22 9 407 807. Typical specs from Mobil are 7.4 cSt @ 100c, 18,000 cP @ -40, SEMI-SYNTHETIC, Torque Converter Clutch friction requirements.

Maxlife is not 236.14 approved but Valvoline ATF Pro 236.14 is.

It's not as bad as I was expecting but time to change nevertheless.

It has a little * next to the 236.14 spec, basically says they can't say recommend it in CA because their fluid doesn't meet the same spec as OEM. But for the other states that say don't say that, they can recommend it even though it doesn't meet OEM specs. With that said, why even bother, just go with Shell 134 ATF if you can get it.
