Done it , not much with specific MSDS info or independent tests comes up with NOACK searches

THANKS for the help

Amsoil testing showed Redline HP to be under 5.5%.

http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g3115.pdf

It's interesting that Amsoil also claimed that same Redline oil failed the TEOST deposit test!

The Russian Oil Club has M1 5W30 ESP at 5.6% NOACK loss...

http://www.oil-club.ru/forum/topic/6709-6709/

The ROC also has a page for Redline 5W30 and measured its NOACK loss as 5.3%.

These are the best results I've seen for 5W30.

BTW, here's the master list of Russian Oil Club VOAs...I know it's a strange source, but the information has basically correlated with other analyses when I have found other VOAs for oils they have looked at.

Redline does seem to be at the top of the list.

I can't seem to find much specific info, for Mobil 1 , PP or the elusive Ultra.
I was hoping to try Royal Purple since it's HQ is local and easily available but no NOACK info. on their MSDS.

Mobil 1 0w-40 Euro is on my list (NOACK around 8-9% if I remember)

Castrol Edge 0w-40 is hard to find locally

I'm intrigued by this 0w-30 Belgian Castrol but it's an SL , too much phos or zinc then ???

I'll probably $pring for the Redline since the HTHS is very good too.

Thanks

If it's SN then max Noack is 15%
if it's Dexos1 max Noack is 13%
if it's A3/B4 and MB 229.5 then max Noack is 10%

The Belgian Castrol Edge 0W30 (A3/B4, SL, MB 229.5, BMW LL-01) in the other thread has a spec sheet and it lists the Noack at 8.3%
It also has a HTHS of 3.5 cP, when a typical ILSAC 30 grade would have a HTHS of 3.0 +/- 0.1

If it never drops below 0F (-20C) for you, then consider a synthetic 10W30, they often have a Noack in the 6 to 8 % range.

yeah , I think 9 months out of the year a 10w-30 would be fine for what I need

The PQIA has M1 at about 10% in their 2013 roundup of 5W30 synths.

http://www.pqiamerica.com/March2013PCMO/Marchsyntheticsallfinal.html

The "star" of this list as far as NOACK is concerned, Pennzoil Ultra, has since been discontinued...Platinum and Ultra Platinum 5W30 do not have quite such impressive results, although they are still very good.

Our buddies at the ROC have M1 5W30 EP at 9%.

http://www.oil-club.ru/forum/topic/8445-mobil1-extended-performance-5w-30-svezhee/

I have just switched from M1 5W30 to EP for the winter and ESP for the summer. They are all low in calcium to alleviate my LSPI concerns and the standard M1 and EP both have low CCS viscosities at -30C (I ski a lot and will have my car parked outside on some very cold nights in the White Mountains). ESP is a thicker at cold so I don't like it as a winter fill, but I have 12 liters of it sitting around now for warm weather use.

And, you are welcome, sir!!

Do you head further North in the winter, maybe to ski or snowboard?
I would think that 10WXX would fit your needs year round in Houston...

I've used a lot of M1 & M1 EP over the last 12yrs (currently in the wife's RX350) with good results.

What is the M1 "ESP" ??

Thx

Thx ! interesting source of info

While talking about 10w30 Amsoil signature series has always had very low NOACK on their 10w30 visc.

For 5w30 Red Line is quite good and I always liked it's viscosity and HTHS in that viscosity if you don't mind a boutique oil and the cost.

It's a shame the old ULTRA is discontinued and the new Pennz Ultra Plat is extremely scarce around here. A couple auto parts stores will order it in about 3 different weights but no local inventory at any chain retailers.

I've been reading more that the Bosch DI system on these engines is better than most.
Hopefully less carbon deposits on intake vales and less fuel dilutuin but I guess thta's more a function of ring blow-by under boost.

I also plan on adding a "catch can" for the EGR system to keep dirty oil from coming back through the intake.
