Not holes.

I suppose ink, going to try to get the media off of it when I have time to take a closer look...

They are not. Note that the tapping plate design is not the same as the BLUE and the BLUE ONE is actually quite a bit sharper. The way the ADBV fits in these contact with the holes is limited, the valve seals near the threads and on the raised ring outside the holes. I don't believe the ADBV could be pierced, but it could be abraded.

I don't care for the flashing inside the holes either.

Thanks for the report and nice pictures. The flashing inside the holes is the top baseplate piece that forms the crimp with the can at the seam. Purolator has for a long time pressed the baseplate outer piece into the heavy tapping plate holes. Looks fine to me.

Sure if you don't mind your nice flexible silicone ADBV being cut to ribbons ...

He shows a picture of the actual adbv, does it look cut to ribbons?

Isn't this Purolators top of the line? I know there are better quality filters for less money. Who would buy these?

I didn't have time to acknowledge the photographer! I had a point to make!

here is the baseplate from a slotted puro STP 3614

And one from an ACDelco PF46.

One is a quality product one is not. You can feel the roughness on the puro. ACDelco seems to know what they are doing. The problem with oil filters is you get no warranty. No one can prove what damage the filter did to the engine in most cases. You have to chose wisely. I have had adbv failurs on puro classics before every time I used one on my 2.2. Had start up noise after a few months of use. Junk is junk.
