Did I damage my trans by using the wrong fluid?

Recently changed the trans filter and replaced what trans fluid that was in the pan from my 05 G35 sedan 116k miles. About 4 qts. It turns out I used the wrong trans fluid.

I used castrol transmax CTV instead of castrol transmax for imports. I dumped the pan and refilled letting the fluid warm up and I checked and rechecked for a while. Everything seems ok. The car shifts fine but I'm wondering if I should I flush out more of the CVT? I know the manual states use only J matic fluid but read that transmax was a fine alternative.

For sure.

The additive packages are vastly different.

Not sure what you mean by that, but get the correct fluid and drain/fill the pan, then swap out via the cooler lines. See this thread about doing it on a G35 - newer a little than yours but I think about identical:

Since you really want it out, I'd do a pan fill, and swap the total system volume (~12 qts). So I'd get 4 gallons. Then I'd do the PS system too. Those get overlooked.

Thanks for all of the reply's confirming its best to swap out all of the fluid. I haven't been driving the car since I F'd up the fluid change.

Good thinking. As mentioned already, I would get that fluid out as soon as you can. They are very different and could cause damage. Castrol Transmax (import) would work well as well as Valvoline maxlife. Either or.
