I want to use a Fram Pro Synthetic 7317 filter on my Infiniti M35, instead of the 6607 it calls for. Then I can also use the same filter for my Honda and Subaru.

The gasket ID and OD is only .048 inches less on the 7317 than on the 6607. Bypass pressure ratings are the same, and the 7317 is only .85 inches longer. Knowing my filter mounting base plate should accommodate it, I can't foresee any problem.

Anyone else use the 7317 on any Nissans and Infinitis?

Almost everybody does

The 7317 and 6607 has a diameter of 2.69 ... so does the st 9688 diameter of 3.02 cause a issue at all??

I actually have a Honda 15400-PLM-A02 (rebranded TG7317) on my father's G35. No clearance or bypass issues so far!

Similar construction, both use silicone adbv and fiber endcaps. Rated, tested efficiency not so much. TG rated ~99%@20um, A02 ISO tested ~66%@20um. Note, that info given just as a point of information not a recommendation.

As for the question, when my son owned his G37 he ran the 7317/14610 size instead of the spec 6607/14612, no issues. In my observation, for no apparent reason Nissan frequently specs the shorty 6607/14612 where 7317/14610 will easily fit. Same specs, just a longer filter and more media area.

Run the 7317.

I run the TG7317 on my Frontier, it calls for the 6607 in the filter book. It's just easier, since the Hondas I work on also call for the 7317. I can keep one part in "stock" that way.

I'm not sure why Fram calls for the smaller filter??? The OEM filter and Wix, Purolator, etc, are all the 7317 size???

That is curious. Looks like the 2.5L Frontier specs the shorty, but as noted 4.0L the 7317/14610/57356. Though it won't hurt to run the shorty, thinking Fram needs to update the 4.0L.
