well I decided to do a diff fluid change on my 2015 G80 Diff in my silverado. I hand pumped out and filled with almost 3 qts of SYNpower 75W90 gear lube. Wanted to get the break in stuff out. FF was very dark but didnt smell burnt or anything, Fill plug magnet had almos nothing on it. I'll be happy back there till I get to 100K miles.

Good job Realtech. My 2005 G80 with 181,000 miles probably needs this service as well. I bought it used, but AFAIK the diff oil has never been changed. It's now on my 'to do' list, though I'll probably use the Mobil1 75w90.

My old '03 Dodge 2500 Diesel called for diff service every 15,000 miles under Severe Service, Which I did & still had to have the rear Ring & Pinion replaced before 100K.....Go figure, At least it was under warranty.

What gets me is, GM & Dodge use the SAME 11.5" AAM differential in their Diesel & 3500 trucks, But the GM version has a drain plug & doesn't call for fluid changes, And Dodge calls for stupid short drain intervals but have No drain plug.....

They don't. I have a 2011 with the G80 and I tow frequently and changed it at 50,000. The factory fill is a synthetic.

Another case of BITOG "over maintenance".
