There does not seem to be much use of scan tools in the motorcycling community.

I am looking for an inexpensive scan tool for my Honda CBR300R. The only inexpensive one I found was this one on ebay
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Classic-7-in-1-Motorbike-Repair-Diagnostic-Scan-Tool-Support-7-Brand-Motorcycle-/262253441245?hash=item3d0f85f0dd:g:D8UAAOSwaA5WjIFp
The tool will be used purely to satisfy my curiosity about the Honda fuel injection system. Any thoughts on this tool?

I enquired on the CBR300R forum and did not get much of a response

The Honda factory too is the MCS (Motorcycle Communication System) and googling it did not bring up anything significant. Makes me wonder if the Honda dealers have the scan tool.

Scan tools help tremendously in trouble shooting automobiles but, since motorcycle fuel injection systems are relatively unsophisticated and simple, motorcycle scan tools do not seem to be much used.

Most of the Fuel Injected bikes (Yamaha) I have had will give you the codes and allow you to run diagnostic checks from the instrument panel. The factory service manual had the instructions. I don't know how the Honda systems work.

Shorting two pins at the DLC will cause the MIL to flash the DTCs, much like the OBD1 cars. The DTCs can also be erased this way but that is about it. You need the scan tool to view live data and run bidirectional controls ( if there are any on this Honda).
