Dated February, 2016. Of note, still no LL-01 approval. Looks quite different from the outgoing 0w-40:

Approvals:
- API SN, ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4
- MB 229.3, 229.5, VW 502 00/505 00, Porsche A40

Specs:
@ 40C .......................................................................70.8
@ 100C......................................................................12.9
Viscosity Index..............................................................186
MRV at -40C, cP (ASTM D4684) .........................................21600
HTHS Viscosity, mPas @ 150C, (ASTM D4683).......................3.6
Total Base Number (ASTM D2896).......................................12.6
Sulfated Ash, wt% (ASTM D874)..........................................1.34
Phosphorous, wt% (ASTM D4981).........................................0.1
Flash Point, C (ASTM D92)...............................................226
Density @15C, g/ml (ASTM D4052).....................................0.8456

Versus the old M1 0w-40:

Approvals:
- API SN, ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4
- MB 229.3, 229.5, LL-01, VW 502 00/505 00, Porsche A40, Nissan GT-R

Specs:
@ 40C .......................................................................75
@ 100C......................................................................13.5
Viscosity Index..............................................................185
MRV at -40C, cP (ASTM D4684) .........................................31000
HTHS Viscosity, mPas @ 150C, (ASTM D4683).......................3.8
Total Base Number (ASTM D2896).......................................11.8
Sulfated Ash, wt% (ASTM D874)..........................................1.3
Phosphorous, wt% (ASTM D4981).........................................0.1
Flash Point, C (ASTM D92)...............................................230
Density @15C, g/ml (ASTM D4052).....................................0.85

Looks like the new product is a fair bit lighter with a significant reduction in MRV viscosity.

Yeah, so this new FS stuff is what we already have here at Walmart in 5qt jugs.

Nobody answered my question from the previous thread: what does "FS" stand for? smile

About 5-7% thinner than before, but still very stout I'm sure. Nice high TBN!

FS is probably something dumb like "film strength" or "full synthetic".

"full synthetic"? As opposed to it not being a full synthetic before? heh...

Exactly, it's likely just some marketing [censored] they decided to add for differentiation.

Could FS be for PAO-based Class 4 synthetic vs. Class 3 like other M1 oils?

I assume you mean "group" instead of class.

Where did you see information on the composition of Mobil 1?

Approvals can be so inconsistent. So if I'm a BMW owner that's been using this (Mobil1 0W-40) for years and now go to the dealership with an issue. They check my receipts which say Mobil1 0W-40, and then say..."sorry, according to the Mobil1 website this oil doesn't meet LL01 etc.? Can you prove you used the version that did...sir?"

WTH!

An even weaker 40 grade. That works for me as I would use it in vehicles specifying 30 grade. This M1 now moves a big step closer to the PU 0w-40 SRT which is also in the 12's on 100c deg on VOA's.
