What's interesting is that obviously 540 RAT has some sort of education beyond high school, has the money and wherewithal to source lots of different oils and to test them and record the results of the testing.

And at the end he say's this:

It only goes downhill from here......

Anyone who shims their valve springs to .080" of coil bind deserves to lose a lobe.
From Sparks, Nevada eh?
Used a modified worn-out slot machine for testing?

What is so wrong about this rat540 test? Not testing motor oils in motors? LOL

I don't think I understand what his test even is. I mean he is testing the properties of the oils in a certain way, but how that translates to internal combustion engines I have no idea.

He's using a one armed bandit with cold oil. None of which represents how an oil behaves in an internal combustion engine. Pert plus scores very high using this testing protocol, bet it keeps engines clean too(sarcasm)

This nonsense test gets posted at least once a month since I've been a member, and it gets discredited each time.
There is a reason oil manufacturers use real engines in their test beds, because it's the only accurate way to test a formulation.

Exactly. It has nothing in common with an ICE,and therefore is nothing more than an effort in futility.

It appears to me the tests is more about AW additives performance only ...... which constitutes a

minor component of oil properties in totalities.

If I had one of those test rigs and wanted to stop it wearing out, I'd pick the best oil (or additive) on Rat's list.

That's all the test tells you, is what wears Rat's test rig out the quickest/slowest.

Nothing really about engines (oh, and I'm an engineer too)
