Playing around with this stuff lately and have good very good results in the past (though mostly ideal conditions). No idea if it'll work out as good this time, though.

Anyways, I was curious is anybody knows how it actually works? I mean the chemistry behind it? Google didn't turn up much.

I'm confused by these "rust converters" (water base) on the market.
I've used the ones that turn the rust a black color.
After it dries, if you scrape at it, you still see the rust underneath it.
I hear for rust to spread, it needs oxygen.
It seems these Rust Converters only form a barrier.

If I'm working on a painted surface, I like Phosphoric Acid as a rust stopper.
I then use self-etching primer (Rust-o-leum), and top coat.

If I'm working under my vehicle, I use Fluid Film.
F F will creep thru the rust down to the base metal.

Perhaps others here have used Rust Converters and had good results.

I use the Rustoleum RR as a quick rust spot repair when already under the car for maintenance.

It does NOT last like the brush on, Wurth Rust Guard (basically, a ONE step/coat, minimum prep, POR 15 product) I have used does.

That stuff is still on some of my clothes, even after 150+ washings in HOT water!!!

Its a good one step process. But treating the rust and then using Eastwood Rust Encapsulator or POR-15 or a self etching primer is better. I think Loctite Extend is similar to Rust Reformer.
