My boss bought an older jeep.its rear main sprung a big leak. Put sthm oil in it and he drove it 2000 miles with no change.

He got fed up with the mess and he had me change the seal.

The seal was rock hard. No wonder it leaked.

It wasn't the fault of the oil.

The seal got hot, hardened and lost it's plasticity.

Makes you wonder what the previous owner's OCI was and what oil he used.

Rear main seals rarely come back to life adequately with oil alone. Bummer but atleast you have the knowledge to fix it.

The jeep came with many receipts for oil changes every 3k. Its spotless inside. I had a terrible time getting the old seal out.ended up dropping the crank 1/8 inch or so
