Remember the signal is very very low power since it is a few feet.
Then factor in the battery lasts about 2 years whereas it would last much longer in a traditional remote that uses more power each time a signal is sent since it goes further.
Lastly, I have some windows that are wirelessly connected to my alarm system. I'm seeing several years usage from those button batteries. They are always on (the alarm system reads their status eg low battery)
