Here is the fine print:

Note: Offer ends November 30, 2014. Requests must be postmarked by December 15, 2014 and received by December 31, 2014. Void for residents of RI or where prohibited by law. Limit 2 rebates per person, household or address (e-mail and physical). Rebate will expire 60 days from issue date. This redemption form and proof of purchase submission may not be mechanically reproduced. An original printed and dated purchase receipt showing the required qualifying Pennzoil® Full Synthetic motor oil purchase (brand and product required on invoice) between September 1, 2014 and November 30, 2014 must accompany all submissions. Use of fictitious names, multiple addresses or P.O. Boxes to fraudulently obtain additional rebates is a violation of federal law, and may result in prosecution.

I wonder what's up with our neighbors to the south, in Rhode Island, not being able to participate?

I only quickly googled it, but seems to basically be that Rhode island has passed multiple laws in regards to rebates.

Under the new laws, it is an unfair trade practice to advertise the net price (i.e., the post-rebate price) of an item unless the rebate is made available by the retailer at the time of purchase. In addition, it is an unfair trade practice to refuse to accept a photocopy or "other reasonable facsimile" of an original sales receipt when a consumer is redeeming a rebate. Companies also may not limit rebates to one per household per item.

Looks like they've made some changes. I don't see anything about the evil "participating stores" exclusion. If I recall it was previously limited to very few places like Meijers and Menards.

I also see in their form it doesn't look like they require the proof of purchase for the mail in rebate anymore. That always forced me to use the online submission.

This is crazy, I just got my spring rebate checks not too long ago and now another one...

This?

An original printed and dated purchase receipt showing the required qualifying Pennzoil® Full Synthetic motor oil purchase (brand and product required on invoice) between September 1, 2014 and November 30, 2014 must accompany all submissions.

No, actually now that I think about it...it was the Meijer store printed rebate form that instructed you to include the proof of purchase along with the receipt.

The proof of purchase is usually the bar code and on Pennzoil oil jugs it pretty much required you to cut a hole in the bottom portion of the back of the oil jug as you couldn't just peel it off the label.

EDIT***
I also just went to their previous 2014 spring rebate page and seen it was in fact limited to 4 stores exclusively and this new form looks like everyone, well except Rhode Island can participate. Although it's not September 1st yet and things may change.

While the ad may be from Advanced Auto. it does NOT say purchase has to be from their store...

Is it strange that this rebate doesn't show up on the pennzoil site rebate page?

I was thinkin that, it was weird that the link was through advance auto parts. I'm gonna give it time though since the rebate period hasn't officially started yet.

I agree that it is strange, on the other hand, there is no mention of Advance on the MIR form itself and there are SOPUS trademarks.

Here is the webpage on Advance where it's located, among many others: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/o/rebates

The Pennzoil MIR is not the only one on that webpage that is from the manufacturer and not through Advance. If you mouse over the links you can see which ones go to Advance's 'checkrebate' site and which ones link to manufacturer's PDFs.

As was said before, the rebate period doesn't start until Sept. 1st, so not really strange unless it's still not up tomorrow.

Thanks for posting. I know I don't need any more oil right now, but that rarely stops me. smile
