Bought a Samsung 840 Pro SSD for my new box that I acquired and thought I'd change the BIOS settings from IDE to ACHI for increased speed. Are there any additional changes that need to made in Ubuntu, or for that matter the rest of the BIOS? The MOBO is a Gigabyte 770TA-UD3

Changes made:

onchip SATA type- from Native IDE to AHCI

onboard ESATA mode- was IDE, now AHCI

onboard SATA 3- was IDE, now AHCI

I remember reading some changes being made to Windows boxes, but couldn't remember what, if anything was done to a Linux box. Also, yes, I know that these changes won't have massive benefits, but I like to play around, optimizing here and there- it's kind of fun and gives me "bragging rights"...

Thanks guys!

yeah sometimes in windows the system will not boot when you change the setting.

The OS needs to reinstalled with that setting if you want to change it.

That has been my experience, I don't use linux except to toy around at work with it.
