I use pppp/ ac delco combo on my 2013 Malibu 2.5L also 5w30 the manual says 5w20 but the engine Is DI since gm timing chains are stretching out I figure a step up in grade would be better

Use the dealer oil changes and do one of your own (in-between) using an AC Delco oil filter. Out of warranty then upgrade to Fram Ultra or equivalent.

I know I sure wouldn't.

Anything with the dexos spec is good. I am a pretty frequent user of the Malibu forums since I got my 2013, only recall one car with gunked up valves. I used Mobil 1 5w20 - you can get the 5 quart jug for ~25 dollars at walmart.

As for filters, I got a good deal on a bunch of motorcraft filters so I have been using those.

Probably going to run ~5k and get a uoa to check on fuel dilution, etc.

While this car is under warranty, the best oil is whatever Chebby recommends in the OM.
OCIs should be based upon the OLM.
Any mid-tier filter should be fine for these drain intervals.
IIRC, GM drain plugs on the later engines are typically the somewhat oddball 15mm size.

I just looked at the owners manual of the 2013 Malibu.
There is no 5w20 or 0w20 grade mentioned. I just bought
a 2014 GMC Terrain with the 2.4 Ecotec engine. The oil grade
is 5w30. If used in extreme cold of -25 C then a 0w30 can be
used. I would not be using a 0/5w20 oil.
