Those of us with Audi 1.8T engines in our VW Passats or Audi A4s now need to use a larger oil filter, to compensate for having an undersized drain pan. Claimed equivalents to VW (oem) 068 115 561 B include:
> Mahle OC 51
> Bosch 72174
> Deutsch D534
> Mann 940/25
> Beck/Arnley 042-8139
> Fram PH3569
> Volvo 1257492-7
> AC Delco PF-960
> Lee LF-2815HP
> Purolator FCO-257
> Purolator PC-257

Others have recommended the even-larger:
> [Wix] Napa 51333
> [Mann] Purolator L40316

Other than the 4-letter "F-word" brand (6th item from the top), would anyone recommend against or for anything on this list?

FYI my 1.8T transverse engine currently has a Napa Gold 1333 mounted on it. Not sure how one of those huge filters will mount in a longitudinal layout such as yours...

John.

I use a big Austrian made Mahle OC105 when the otherwise L40316(also known as Mann W950/4) is out of stock in Pep Boys. These are comparable to the Wix 51333/Napa 1333.

FWIW, I called Champion Labs & they told me that Mobil 1 #M1-301 is equivalent to Napa Gold #1333, which is equivalent to VW 068-115-561B

Standard size and white in colour if found in Canada.

I chopped open a VW, Knecht/Mahle, Fram (off burned car, appeared to have black paint on it) and Canadian Tire Formula One (Fram) today. These are all equivalent spec filters run on VW diesels. The VW and Knecht were very thick skinned and hard to puncture. The Frams were thinner. The burnt Fram fell apart in my hands. The Canadian Tire fram appeared okay, perhaps a touch of twisting occurred. The VW appeared okay, perhaps a touch of twisting occurred. The Knecht was fine too.
