My neighbour had us in stitches the other day.

He's (amongst other things) a highschool science teacher, and some of the boys asked him to show them how to make explosives.

He explained to them that he couldn't, as they already had difficulty counting to ten using both hands, and he didn't think that they'd be very good at all with fractions

Meh the explosions we used to make with welding gases, magnesium powder, gasoline, etc, would have had us up on terrorism charges. We lived, no fingers were lost, singed eye brows grew back. Part of growing up in 50s-60s

Made a cannon in school out of a thick pipe about 6 inches long.

Drilled it half way down, then a small hole in the side.

Stick it in the ground, pack it full of match heads, stick match in the side hole.

Light it, step back. Nice cheap noisemaker.

As kids we had an 8 inch by 14 ft pipe with one end welded shut and a small hole drilled that we filled with oxyacetylene.

Bring a flame next to the drilled whole and the windows on a 100 meters radius would rattle.

My favorite explosive adventure was iodine and ammonia mixed, then strained out the precipitate.

As it dries it becomes VERY unstable, we would spread it around the classroom entrance a few minutes before start time!

Lots of fun...

Easiest ever...dry ice in a soda bottle, left someplace warm. After an hour or two...POP!
