Hey Guys,

Anytime I have to slide something with o ring I will lube it with WD40
A) it will not migrate like let say vaseline but it will evaporate

WD40 website says safe for rubber
I seen some diy test where orings were not affected after seating for 24hrs

Should I replace orings that I used WD40 on ?
Or not worry about it ?

If I remember our last discussion on this correctly, according to the manufacturer of WD40, it is safe on o-rings.

Your correct. The WD40 will evaporate off and wont hurt a thing. No worries.

Don't worry about it...anything is better than nothing and WD-40 is harmless. Personally, I use Vaseline. Vaseline melts at about 100*F and I have not noticed any mess. It disappears very quickly around a hot engine. Never had a seal/lip or "O" ring leak with Vaseline..(knock on wood)

I've used motor oil on gas line fittings and the appropriate fluid (PS, ATF, etc) on everything else.

Probably too little to make any difference.

O-rings are normally made of neoprene rather than rubber. Personally I would use a silicone based grease like Sil-glyde.

Thx, should I replace them then ?

According to WD40,neoprene is not affected by it...

For all variations : WD-40 demonstrates none to negligible deleterious effect to plastic, rubber, and metal hard surfaces. This includes Acetal, neoprene/hard rubber, HDPE, PPS Copolymer Polysulfone, Teflon, Viton, steel, galvanized steel hot dip, electroplated, copper, brass, magnesium, nickel, tin plate, titanium, and zinc

According to msd there are some rubbers that will swell after prolonged exposure... Orings are pretty tight sealing stuff so I wonder if it will evaporate or because its tight its just gonna sit there ?
