If Moly is a metal, will a magnetic sump nut attract the moly out of the oil?

I don't think Mo is in oil in pure metallic form, so no.

I believe pure Mo is paramagnetic.

There are a lot of elements that are metal. It has to be ferrous metal to be picked up by a magnet. Aluminum is a metal, along with copper, tin.

I thought Molybdenite was a mineral.

MoS is more like graphite than a metal.

No - to be picked up by a magnet an element has to be ferromagnetic. Cobalt, iron and nickel are all ferromagnetic (in fact Co is the strongest). Other elements do also get attracted by a magnetic field in far weaker ways, including oxygen.

I have just seen a scientific study that shows that 'regular' MoS2 is diamagnetic (so weekly magnetic that it won't show up to you and me), although specially-prepared nanosheets of MoS2 displayed ferromagnetism.
