Hey Guys,

I'm looking to upgrade the wheels and tires on my VW, got to looking and came across this site http://www.oewheelsllc.com

Wondering if anyone has purchased wheels from them. They are not OEM wheels but convincing replicas. I've googled them and the reviews for customer service are pretty bad up until approx. 2009-10 timeframe.

Here's specifically the wheel I'm considering.

Opinions?

I would recommend these guys:

http://www.powerwheelspro.com/shop/

I ran their replicas on my Audi and was quite satisfied. They held up quite well and I'd say the finish was pretty good. If you don't see what you want, email/call them and ask -- they can sometimes get others you don't see listed.

I've also used these guys:

http://www.wheelsandcaps.com/

One of the wheels on my old Integra was in really rough shape (finish was coming off) and it was cheaper to just order a replacement than to get it dismounted and refinished. Also a good quality replica that was a perfect match to the remaining three OEM wheels.

And yes, I know that some of you will cringe at replicas, but I have had zero problems. These things are likely coming out of the same factory as other name-brand aftermarket wheels. I'm convinced that there's only one company making all these OEM replicas and you're just going to see various markups.

I'd scour craigslist or VW forums for some take-offs before spending that much on replicas. You might find a deal with near new tires for less than you'd pay for those wheels only.

Another good idea, but get ready for some rough wheels (curb damage, peeling finish, bent, etc). Not sure what your timetable is, but I would only use CL if I was in no rush. Occasionally I see sets of brand new wheels that only have a few hundred miles but they're horrendously overpriced and include OEM tires, thereby driving the price up even higher.

My personal opinion is that even though replicas are convincing, the quality just isn't there.

I bought some new replicas and felt that the metal is softer than OE. Also had to slightly grind the centerbores to get a good fit.

Your experience will probably be different, but if I had a chance to do over, I wouldn't spend the money. I am not an "OEM only!" type of person, but in this case, I believe there is a difference in quality of production.
