Has anyone compared this VOA to the DuraBlend version?

On what basis? The new Maxlife is a better oil in every way - it is both Dexos1 compatible and is fuel-efficient enough to earn the starburst donut.

Thanks OP, for your contribution.

I liked the zinc and moly levels of the older version better for my applications which are older flat tappet engines. I'll probably switch to the Shell T5 or T6.

I don't think there is a conventional MaxLife. There is the synthetic blend (this one, the red bottle), and there is also the full synthetic, which I believe comes in a silver bottle. This version tested is the basic version of MaxLife that you find everywhere. I, too, am disappointed in the removal of molybdenum (my cars seem to run quieter on oils with moly).

OP, thanks for your VOA of this (and of the SynPower in your other thread).

Thanks for the VOA OP!

Looks like moly is gone, going too have too go Pennzoil HM for it I guess, but still like Valvoline.

Our old Ranger likes moly and boron a lot, and by the VOA, Valvoline Msxlife has none.

Thanks again!

Exactly. Get over the moly obsession it's not the only FM in town. Notice in the ML PDS they use the words "Novel FM's". Could be an ester of some sort as Molekule has alluded to before.

I always thought Valvoline HM oils also had a little bit higher viscosity than Valvoline Durablend.

Question is, which one is better, the old or new formulation? What about NextGen green bottle? Did it change too? I still have about 20 FAR quarts of MaxLife NextGen from the last year promotions at parts stores. I wonder what formula were those.

Thats what I was thinking. What happened to the higher viscosity for
high mileage engines ?

I emailed valvoline tech a week ago asking why the durablend oil is so hard to find compared to their other oils. Because I like durablend, just wish it was easier to find. They said that they have combined durablend with the maxlife add pack. That's why it is now SN/GF5 approved and meets dexos1 specs, and it also explains why there is no more moly in maxlife.
