Who manufactures Kohler oil filters? AA is stamped on the baseplate. This is also stamped on my Harley Davidson oil filter.

Thanks

I cut open a Kohler filter I found in the trash outside work. It was an Ecore but, it was a darn good-looking ecore! It was plumb stuffed full of media, probably twice as much as was in the same-sized ecore I took off my girlfriend's car a few months ago. I don't think it would have been able to have the dreaded blowout.

Just to point out one thing. People here mistakenly say Fram owns Champ Labs, which is wrong.

People seem to be getting confused because the new company is called Fram Filtration. That makes people think Fram bought Champ Labs, but that's not correct.

Fram and Champ labs were purchased independently by a 3rd organization, the Rank Group. The Rank Group then combined the two filter companies into a new organization and named the new organization Fram Filtration, likely because the Fram name is more recognizable than the Champ Labs name.

Here's more info:

The new company is called Fram Filtration, but again, that's not because Fram bought Champ Labs.

Both Fram and Champ Labs have been purchased separately by a company called the Rank Group based in New Zealand.

Here's a press release from 2011 when the Rank Group agreed to buy Fram. It says in the release that the Rank Group was already in the process of buying Champ Labs at that time:

The Rank Group bought Honeywell's consumber products group, which included FRAM filters, Prestone antifreeze, Autolite spark plugs and some other stuff.

The Rank Group also bought UCI International, parent of Airtex Products, ASC Industries and Champion Laboratories.

The Rank Group then combined all of them into the UCI Fram Group:

The Rank Group combined all the filtration assets under the name Fram Filtration. I can only assume that is because it's a more recognizable name the Champ Labs.

Not really an answer to the op's question but you can cross reference Kohler's number on Fram's website and get a list of filters that meet the same specs. I do this to assure I get a good quality filter for my mower at a much better price.
