Lead Substitute

I was getting gas at a BP ststion the other day and they had a grade of gas that says it has a lead substitute. It was a 87 octane gas that costed 10 cents a gallon more then the regular 87 octane. Is this a bunch of ** or would this gas be good for old cars and small engines.
