Hey guys, I wanted to ask about oil viscosity for my wife's 2011 Jeep Liberty 3.7 V6. I changed the oil tonight using Mobil 1 Synthetic 10w30 in the 5 qt. jug. I know it said to use the 5w20, but I like using the 10w30, and I've had great success with it. That should be fine to use, ya think?

They aren't going to be happy with it if you have a warranty claim.

The likelihood of an oil related problem are slim and none, but I'd not recommend using 10w30 in it till you're out of warranty. Not going to hurt anything but I wouldn't make a habit out of it.

Statements like this one make absolutely no sense.

The 3.7 was spec'd for 5w30 back in 04 before CAFE got a hold of it. Should be ok unless it gets really cold.

That engine will be fine with that oil unless it gets below 0 degrees F. 5w30 or 5w20 are great oils for winter time use. It does tend to get a little cold in Indiana in the winter.

It was spec'd for 5W30 until 2006, 2007 they made the change to 5W20. 10W30 would be fine, 5W30 would be a better choice if the OP feels the need for a 30 grade oil. Keep in mind a 20 grade for the warranty though.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've used 10w30 in everything I've driven, including my current vehicle, a 2000 GMC Sierra 2500 with a 6.0L and 193,000 miles with absolutely no drips or leaks. That's why I said I've had great success with it. I truly didn't think it would hurt anything either, but if it seriously comes to warranty issues I'll just switch it back to the 5w20 on the next change.
