And it's not only cheaper, it's more readily available as well.
I have never been disappointed with synthetic ATF in power steering systems that require ATF. They lighten the steering.
Many European cars leave the factory with synthetic PSF. There must be a good reason to use a product that costs 5x to 10x as expensive.
That was my experience in the TL, a very slight lightening of the steering, most noticable when cold. Unfortunately it was wrecked within a month so I haven't gotten a chance to test out the leak theory. In fact I have to order a few more pints since the rack was replaced twice.
