I use it all the time - it is #1 first preferred.

BUT... keeping other parts clean is a must! Tape and paper off areas so you don't grit there from cleaning.

You HAVE to clean the surfaces - SB is a great way.

Didn't you think about that first - never crossed your mind? Residue and particulate matter getting in an OPEN engine!?

Anyway, what to do?
You could flush the affected areas and drain it out the bottom.
Do this a number of times. I'd use light oil.
Then you have to recoat the cam with oil, or moly paste if it is new.

Guys, thanks for the responses.

I was careful to keep everything wet, and kept wiping the scuffed areas with a damp rag. The lifters and trays were still in so this stuff mainly stayed in the lifter valley and the valley cover area. Still I noticed some junk got on the cam anyway. I did it by hand to try and minimize dusting, however I thought the pads were made of vinyl and didn't realize they had aluminum oxide in them until I checked the MSDS later on. I will do the appropriate flushes, bolt it together, run it, and change the oil. After a couple hundred miles I will send a oil sample to black stone for peace of mind.

Thanks,
Dan
