Here is the oil analysis report from Blackstone for my 2011 G37 with 19k miles. Looks pretty good.

I can't post the report bcoz this website needs it from a URL. Looks obsolete that we can't copy an image

Thanks for the link...Finally posted in code block above. 1st oil analysis for my car.

But the preferred way of posting UOA reports here is to type them up (in text) as links to images become broken over time. Instructions are here:

Copper is a little elevated but you have a young engine. Nothing I would worry about yet. Where are the people that say this engine family needs a "heavier" oil. If you are going to keep you OCI under 8K I recommend using a quality conventional. Hopefully a moderator will move this into the UOA section,

I think these engines have problems with high oil temps if they are driven on the track, at least in the 370z's. That may be where the heavier oil recommendation comes from

I am planning to keep OCI around 7500miles which is what recommended by Infiniti under Scheduled Maintenance2.

I have Penzoil Platinum right now. I actually wanted Ultra but could not find it in time.

Does TBN seem low for a full synthetic after 6500 miles, or was the car seeing a more severe duty cycle?

I just called the shop where i get my oil change. They said my initial 2 oil changes were on SyncPower. This last one is Max Life. So you are right....

The car did have two days of severe driving in mountains with curvy roads. The rpms are between 3500 and 6500 most of the time. A typical mountain run lasts 4-5hrs with a 90-120mins break/lunch. We do that every month here with friends (Fellow G35/G37's)

The problem is that the heavier oil temperatures cause the engine to go into limp mode sooner. The problem is oil cooling, rather than a viscosity issue. A 40 might "hold up" better to heat than a 30, but the 40 will get hotter. Fix the temperature issue first, then play with viscosity if need be.

I just use PYB 5w-30 without issues. For the question about sodium add pack, I believe the Valvoline syn has that. It's good to know this oil did well. The NAPA Full Synthetic (Valvoline) is under $25 for 5L up here right now at NAPA, while Walmart's selling it on "special" for like $43!

Salt has been seen in other Synpower UOA's also.

Salt?! Where are you getting the info that there is salt in the oil? If your referring to Sodium, sodium is a metal not a salt. You can combine sodium with another element, like NaCl, to get your common table salt, but it is not "salt" in your engine oil.

^Pretty sure he miss-typed or was being excessively loose with oil additive translation. I work with food often and see 'sodium' often, so I connected the two right away.

lol!

Thanks guys. I know what sodium is I was being very loose on my post. But sodium has been found on both UOA's and VOA's of synpower.

^If anything, if SynPower could have a bit better TBN retention OR if Valvoline would make an EP synthetic...might just get a lot of conversation going on that alone and folks from here trying it.

This is something I am having a hard time wrapping my head around. Synpower has shown in my different applications to retain its TBN well. But on other samples like this one not so well and this has been happening for awhile now.
