I saw this on a Popular Mechanics magazine from 1975.I did not know people did UOA even back then.

I'll do you one better - if you go to Google archives, in the Popular Mechanics collection, and search for the title 'oil analysis for your car', you'll come up with a 1977 article ON oil analysis, including oil analysis reports on cars from back then.

It's a real eye-opener on what API SE oil looked like, and how well they protected!

There was also a pretty good article in Popular Science around that same timeframe. It was the article that got me started doing UOAs, back in the mid-late 70's. There was no Blackstone then, I used Analysts, Inc., which is still around. I still use them on occasion.
