I did my laundry last week and left the speed strip with 5 bullets on it since it is for a J frame in the pocket of my jeans and ran the bullets through the wash . They did not run through the dryer. I took the bullets to the range and they all went bang!!!.

That could have potentially sucked big time if they went through the dryer...

Life lesson here folks, check your pockets at the end of the day :p

A lot of factory ammo is sealed quite well, especially the primers. I'd buy more. Quite a testament.

Ammo needs at least 450-500 degrees to cook off. Dryers aren't nearly that hot.

I guess if Steve S was a goner, I'll know why.

Ya, I had to go back into a doctors office today to look for a missing 380 cartridge where I had been laying on the table getting minor surgery, as I had taken the pistol out of my pocket, but kept the ammo with me. Embarrasing.

"Um...I think I left something in the procedure room I was just in"

"What did you lose?"

"A bullet."

I ended up finding it on the seat of my van.

In battle, ammo is thrown around in metal ammo cans in back of a humvee.

No worries!

I think he meant if it landed on something with enough force and in the right place to ignite the primer. Which is highly unlikely since it takes a lot of concentrated force to do that, especially on a lot of European (especially com bloc) ammo that has harder primers. I know I had to put a heavier firing pin spring in my M1 Carbine to shoot euro made 30 Carbine rounds.
