I cut it open with a grinder and ripped the center apart with a pair of pliers.

Only 23 pleats of media? I guess I wouldn't run it in my own cars, but it has to be on equal to or better than the average quick lube filter..

wix makes them. i cut a new one open once, spread out the media and held it up to the light. you can actually see tiny holes (specs of light) in the media, when held up to a light. i have done this test to every new filter i have ever cut open and have never seen anything as bad as the protec was

Brenden, agreed, probably average, but not bad.

MetalSlug, i'm not sure but i believe wix makes/owns them.

I mean for a 2 dollar filter what did you guys really expect?

It will keep large and medium size rocks/grit out of the oil, but that's about it, just like a K&N air filter..

Brenden, agreed, did what a $2 filter does.
The filter was well made and assembles the only real down side was the number of pleats.

Scorch, 5k miles on toyota 4.0 V6

This is a very small filter, around 3 inches in height. One version is used on mowers, farm and other equipment.

The Pro Tec and the WIX equivilents:

130 PRO-TEC- WIX5 1215
130 PRO-TEC- WIX 51348
130MP PRO-TEC- WIX 51348MP
130 PROTEC-PM- WIX 51348
130MP PROTEC-PM-WIX 51348MP

That is interesting. I bought 2 cases of Pro-tec 101's for 80 cents/filter some time ago. I'm down to little less than 1 case and have noticed no ill effects. Then again, the cars I've used them on only get hundreds of miles per year.
