Here is my report from Blackstone labs on my 2010 Jetta TDI with factory fill, No make up oil added, and comments welcome and appreciated:

Hard to judge since a lot of it is break-in metals. I'm curious about that potassium though.

Do we know what the factory fill oil is?

What oil are you running in it now?

Castrol SLX Professional 5W30 507.00 GOLD is the factory fill and what is in it now. The 10K mile OCI is the recommended from the factory even for initial run (per VW dealer). I was leary about break-in oil going that long, but VW says it's OK and I took their word on it. Only time will tell.

Does this oil use large amounts of potassium? Just curious where it came from, but I'm guessing it did not come from the oil...

Considering a VW dealer told me in 2002 that it was "normal" for a 2000 Golf to burn 2 of 4 total quarts after 5000 miles, yes.

Yes indeed.

I have an '09 TDI that has shown similar UOA results with a couple of exceptions. Your 100 C vis is rather low - - edging toward 20 wt; flash point down too, should stay above 400, all due to somewhat high fuel dilution? Maybe frequent short trips in IL cold weather? Not that it makes any big difference, but I believe the factory fill is a Fuchs oil (very good lubricants). This according to a poster on the TDI forum who has visited the VW engine factory in DE. Fuchs is also known as the factory fill specialist.

Thanks everyone for the comments. It is very much appreciated! The car does get lots of short trips in the winter and summer (my wife's car). I was told it was Castrol for factory fill but I know that dealers aren't always accurate, but I do know for sure that the Castrol was put in at the change. We'll see how this 10K miles go after my next change/analysis.

Blackstone routinely shows lower flash points than other labs. That said Ive found I sometimes get flunky results from my trucks if Ive had to cold start the vehicle and maneuver it immediately before the drain and sample. I get the most representative results immediately after the oil has been run for at least 2 hours at speed.

I am getting an average of 38+ mpg combined, but lots of short trips. Open highway is around 43. It just now has a little over 11K miles on it, so I am not sure if it will pick up any or not. Just waiting to see what happens.

Factory fill is not known to be Castrol, as mentioned it is speculated to be Fuchs.

QP, many current UOAs on the TDI forum show the exact same regarding Potassium in the factory fill. Those who strictly follow 10k maint. show this to normalize.

Blackstone is not know to report low fuel numbers, in fact the opposite: Blackstone rarely reports low fuel when other labs show the fuel to be flashed out.

I agree with m6pwr, the VIS and fuel are a concern as they do not match the TON of UOAs, mainly from Blackstone, that do not show the same.

Those who have a fuel dilution concern in a new CR TDI have ONE thing in common on the TDI boards, use of Bx fuel AND OR, a very cold climate.

vwthingman, have you been using a Bx fuel?

I have been using bio-diesel, as the dealer told me that was what was required since I didn't know differently due to my owners manual being missing (no owners manual for 5 months after getting new car). I just started using straight #2 diesel 2 tanks ago. And yes, a very very cold winter I.E. ice storms and sub zero days were plentiful this season.
